TURNING PARASITE AWARENESS INTO INFORMED PROTECTION
Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health is a global leader in veterinary medicine and a top provider of preventive care, dedicated to improving the wellbeing of animals through science-driven innovation. As one of the world’s largest providers of vaccines, parasiticides, and therapeutics, supported by advanced diagnostics and monitoring platforms, the company helps veterinarians and pet owners protect animal health more effectively.
Within its companion animal division, Boehringer Ingelheim identified a growing need to help pet owners better understand parasite risks and enable veterinarians to deliver more tailored protection plans. We partnered with the team to bring Parassess to life: a digital tool that personalizes parasite risk based on a pet’s lifestyle, environment, and habits.
The CHALLENGE
Pet owners often underestimate the risks posed by parasites, while veterinarians face increasing pressure to move away from one-size-fits-all treatments toward tailored, risk-based prevention plans. The challenge was to translate complex veterinary science into a clear, educational, and engaging experience for pet owners while maintaining credibility with veterinarians.
Encouraging pet owners to complete the assessment and engage with their veterinarian
Enabling veterinarians to make more informed, risk-based recommendations through the digital tool
Ensuring the tool could be easily incorporated into veterinary consultations
The solution
To address the challenges, we launched a digital-first tool that educates pet owners about parasite risks and empowers them to have informed conversations with their veterinarians. The solution combines science-backed insights, engaging design, and seamless integration into veterinary practice to drive awareness, understanding, and behavior change.
Strategic framework and risk mapping: Collaborated with Zoetis Professional Services Veterinarians (PSVs) to define key risk factors and segment pets into low, moderate, and high parasite risk categories.
Educational and engaging user journey: Designed a mobile-friendly questionnaire that guides pet owners through an interactive, educational experience, resulting in a personalized risk report.
Veterinary practice integration: Developed clinic-friendly materials and workflows so veterinarians could easily incorporate the tool into consultations.
the results
Parassess turned complex parasite science into a simple, interactive, and educational experience. The tool delivered personalized insights to pet owners based on their pet’s lifestyle and geographic location, helping them make informed decisions and have meaningful conversations with their veterinarians.
High engagement: Pet owners completed the assessment at high rates and shared their personalized reports with veterinarians.
Veterinary adoption: Clinics easily incorporated the tool into consultations, supporting tailored, risk-based recommendations.
Brand leadership: Reinforced Boehringer Ingelheim’s reputation as a leader in companion animal health, blending science, education, and digital innovation.
